Micromax Chairman Sanjay Kapoor says that attractive price points will be able to pull customers who will appreciate the device performance and quality.

Microsoft owns PureView, ClearBlack and four other Nokia trademarks

When Microsoft purchased Nokia Devices and Services, there were questions about what Redmond would do with certain Nokia created names, like PureView. The latter title was used by Nokia to denote a high-end camera on the back of some of its higher-end Lumia models like the Nokia Lumia 1020.

ClearBack is another name now owned by Microsoft. It is used to differentiate a screen that uses a technology to reduce the reflections on the glass, especially noticeable outside. As a result the blacks become blacker, which improves the contrast of the display, making it easier to read. The ClearBack technology is especially useful for mapping applications, since they tend to be viewed outdoors.

There are four other trademarks that Microsoft is keeping from its acquisition of Nokia Devices and Services. One is Asha, which is the name used for a line of featurephones. The Lumia trademark, which Nokia used for its Windows Phone powered smartphones, now belongs to Microsoft. The remaining two trademarks are Surge, which was the name of a Symbian powered Nokia handset from 2009, and Mural. In 2009, the Nokia Mural was released for AT&T. It is unclear why Microsoft would want to keep trademarks used on five year old Nokia handsets.

All six trademarks now belong to Microsoft Mobile Oy, the name that Microsoft chose for the division that contains Nokia Services and Devices.

LG G Watch specs, release date details leak

Jonesing for more LG G Watch information after last week’s watch face and boot animation leak? I’ve got just the thing for you, friend!
Twitter user @upleaks, who was responsible for the LG G Watch leak that surfaced earlier this month, has posted spec lists that claim to show the entirety of the LG G Watch’s feature set. Here’s what we’ve been told to expect from LG’s first Android Wear effort:

• 1.65-inch 280x280 LCD display
• 4GB storage
• 4Gb RAM
• microUSB connector
• 400mAh battery (36 hour standby time)
• 37.9 x 46.5 x 9.95mm
• Android Wear software with features like multi-language support, Voice Memo, voice SMS support and email notifications

Meanwhile, MoDaCo’s Paul O’Brien has shared some possible availability info for the G Watch. O’Brien says that the LG G Watch will launch in the U.K. on July 7, around a week and a half after Google I/O, with a price tag that’s below the £169.99 ($285 USD) Samsung Gear 2 Neo.
Obviously we’ll have to wait for the LG G Watch to hit shelves and our wrists before we can make any judgments about it, but so far it’s shaping up to be a respectable Android Wear device. Both it and the Moto 360 look like they’ll help Android Wear get off to a good start, and it’ll be interesting to compare the G Watch and its square display with the 360 and its round face.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has 5.7-inch QHD screen confirmed

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has seemingly been leaked yet again. The phablet is getting pretty comfortable with the spotlight, even if its official unveiling is still around three months out.

A Samsung SM-N910A has entered India recently, its voyage over there being made for testing and evaluation purposes. Since the Galaxy Note 3 has the model number SM-N900, it stands to reason that this would be its successor. The 'A' in the name indicates that this particular version will be headed to AT&T.



The N910A is listed to have a 5.7-inch touchscreen, as you can see. This comes to reiterate info from last month's exclusive in which we told you to expect a 5.7" QHD (2560x1440 pixel) panel.
Furthermore, the resolution itself has been confirmed, and by Samsung no less. The SM-N910A already has its own user agent profile listed on the Korean company's website. And sure enough, it's sporting that insane pixel-packed resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 may come in two versions, one with a conventional flat display, the other with a curved OLED screen - which will be available in a limited number of markets. At the moment, it's unclear which of these the N910A could be.

XOLO’s Windows Phone to be the world’s lightest smartphone

The Times of India reports that Xolo’s coming affordable Windows Phone will be the lightest ever, weighing in at less than 100g (3.5 ounces).

The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini weighs in at 107 gram, followed by Apple iPhone 5S at 112 gram and HTC Desire 500 at 123 gram.

The handset by the Indian OEM is set to arrive in July and will be priced at 12,000 INR ($200).


Despite the light weight, the handset will sport a 4.7 inch screen and a Snapdragon 200 processor.

A Xolo spokesperson refused to confirm the leaked details, saying the company did not want to discuss its under-development phones or the launch road map. In an earlier statement however they said:

“We at Xolo believe that Windows OS has certain goodness to offer for a certain market segment and it will help Xolo reach a desired 15% share of the smartphone market by end of 2014.”

Micromax to launch two Windows Phone 8.1 devices next week

NEW DELHI: Microsoft is all set to fight Google's Android operating system in India's budget smartphone market, with domestic devices brand Micromax launching two phones running on its Windows 8.1 mobile operating system coming Monday.

While the exact specifications and pricing of the two Canvas phones is not known, one of the devices will be priced around Rs 6,000-7,000 and other around Rs 10,000-11,000.

It was rumoured that Micromax would launch a Windows Phone-powered smartphone featuring 5-inch full-HD display, Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB RAM. This device was rumoured to sport a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera, 16GB internal storage and a microSD card slot. However, we doubt it is among the two devices slated for launch next week.

The upcoming two Micromax handsets will be the first Windows Phone 8.1 devices to be announced globally after the launch of Lumia 630 by Nokia in April. Lumia 630's two version are priced between Rs 10,500 and 11,500.

Micromax will launch its first Windows Phone-based devices under its Canvas brand two months after being officially announced as Microsoft's Windows Phone partner.

The world's biggest software maker announced its partnership with Micromax at its Build conference in April, where it had also unveiled Windows Phone 8.1, the latest iteration of the OS. Micromax is the first of its partners which plan to launch devices based on Windows 8.1 in India, the other being Lava and Karbonn.

Currently, Micromax sells smartphones exclusively powered by Android. At Mobile World Congress, Microsoft had also announced the names of nine other device makers, including Foxconn, Gionee, JSR, Karbonn, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer and ZTE, which were partnering with the company to offer Windows Phone-based smartphones.

Microsoft is also reported to have waived the licence fee for Windows Phone. In a boost to take its OS to the masses and grow the ecosystem, the software major is working closely with a number of locally-strong phone makers in different countries.

Lava and Karbonn too will be rolling out Windows Phone devices in coming months. The devices are expected to be priced in the affordable range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000.

However, Micromax has still not launched its dual-OS (Android+Windows) LapTab device. It was expected to be introduced in May although rumours suggested that the device had been shelved due to dual-OS devices facing resistance from both Google and Microsoft. Micromax had first showcased the LapTab at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in December 2013.

Apple iPhone 6 leaks: 4.7” and 5.5” model mockups compared

The iPhone 6 is about to become one of the biggest upgrades in iPhone history, with expectations for not one, but two larger-screen models: a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 coming first in the fall, and a 5.5-inch model to arrive shortly after.

While we’re still months away from their official unveiling, Sonny Dickson, the Australian kid who made a name for himself last year, leaking pre-release images of the iPhone 5s and 5c, now strikes again with full mockups showing what the 4.7” and 5.5” iPhone 6 are very likely to look like.

Both models look stunningly thin, and also very similar in terms of design, adopting iPad mini-like aesthetics with curvier edges. The larger screens in both have forced some changes in terms of button layout - the lock key is no longer on top (where it’d be hard to reach), but has moved to the right side, closer to the thumb (if you’re right handed). On the back, Apple has reduced the antennas, leaving just small strips of plastic that almost do not interrupt the apparently aluminum matte back of the iPhone 6. Interestingly, Apple seems to have also ditched the pill-shape dual-tone flash in the iPhone 5s for a simpler, round one (a single one seemingly).

Up front, you can see how the 4.7-inch iPhone has a fairly sizeable bezel, while the 5.5-inch one, in contrast, has almost non-existent side bezel, and is very compact for its size. Pictures of these next iPhones come in white, gold, and gray, the already established iPhone color palette.

And while this is not the first iPhone 6 leak (Taiwanese pop star Jimmy Lin posed with an allegedly leaked iPhone 6 a few days ago), it looks like the most detailed one, coming from a proven source. We can imagine the secrecy-loving people at Apple are not very happy with this, but what we’re more curious about is your thoughts on this new design: do you like it or not?

Nokia buying Medio Systems to improve its HERE maps service

 Nokia has announced that its HERE subsidiary has plans to acquire Medio Systems, a Seattle-based company with 60 employees, to help improve its HERE maps mapping services.

Nokia says that the privately owned Medio, founded in 2004, mines a ton of real time data from sensors and connected devices and uses it in its cloud-based predictive analytics engine. The company offered a description of what Medio’s services will add to its HERE mapping features:

Building on Medio’s ‘smart data’ asset enables HERE to create contextual maps and location services that change according to the situation to provide highly personalized and predictive experiences for people and businesses. That could mean delivering individual restaurant recommendations to someone ready for lunch, giving drivers routes that match their driving style based on real-time conditions or helping businesses personalize their customer offerings.

Nokia also said that Medio’s technology will be shared by the company’s two other remaining divisions, Networks and Technologies, as needed. The acquisition is expected to officially close by the end of July. The specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
